Coach Jody Maske
Director of The Chute Shooting Camps
Inventor of The Chute
Coach Jody Maske is the Director of The Chute Shooting Camps. Coach Maske has coached high school basketball for 24 years, his last 21 as the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Newell-Fonda High School. His numerous state tournament trips were highlighted with state runner-up finishes in 1997 and 2000. Coach Maske's teams were known for their great shooters, their uptempo style of play, and their pressure defense. The principles coach used in buildng his teams, are now the foundation for The Chute Shooting Camps. Coach Maske was inducted into The Iowa Coaches Hall of Fame in 2007.
Coach Niki Maske
Niki Maske is presently coaching basketball in the Mount Pleasant Middle School. Niki enjoyed success at every stop in her basketball career. (Playing college ball at Iowa Central CC and finishing at Iowa Wesleyan College, followed by 1 year as the Assistant Coach at Iowa Wesleyan College.)
Niki has been attending and working basketball camps with her Dad since she was able to walk. Her basketball career has revolved around the three point shot and perimeter play. Her junior year, her high school team finished 2nd in the state. Niki's outside shooting was a big part of that success. She led that team in 3-point shooting and in one game, made 5 3's in a row. Niki brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the camps. She greatly enjoys the game of basketball and loves helping others learn to shoot the ball correctly. She has the patience to work with athletes of all ability levels. Her life on the hardwood gives her first-hand knowledge of what campers who want to play at the next level need to do. She knows her job is to share that knowledge.
Coach Nathan Baron
Assistant Girls Basketball Coach at Newell-Fonda
English Instructor at Newell-Fonda
Coach Baron is the "Blue Collar" worker of the camps. Coach Baron's energy level is high from the moment he steps into the gym until he leaves. His "football" build and his drill sergeant approach demands campers attention from the minute camp starts. Coach Baron willl NEVER accept "I can't" and athletes would be well advised to not use that phrase. Coach Baron isn't as "tough" as he lets on, and campers soon see the lighter side as the camp gets rolling. Still it is fair to say that Coach Baron is a task master! He wants each and every athlete to gain a great deal from The Chute Shooting Camps. He believes that the camps must have a strong carryover effect. He wants everything the camp teaches to stay with the athlete long after we are gone.
Coach Baumann loves basketball and loves being in the gym. He believes if you are going to do something, it only has value if you do it right. His assertive nature and upbeat personality has players fired up and ready to go right from the beginning of camp. Coach Baumann understands that The Chute Camps are about the players who attend...and as a result, he works very hard to make sure each and every camper improves a great deal. His attention to detail, whether it be in shooting technique or footwork, is second to none. Coach Baumann has been a head basketball coach at the high school level and is currently a Jr. High Basketball Coach at Tripoli. Coach Baumann also is the Head Volleyball Coach at Tripoli, his 2008 team won the state title.
Coach Marty Cotter
Coach Cotter has been a basketball coach for over 15 years. His first years he served as a Jr. High Basketball Coach at Northwoood-Kensett. The last four years he has been the Head Boys Basketball Coach at NK. In those 4 years he has taken his team to 2 state tournaments, winning the State Title in 2007. Coach Cotter believes that too often coaches and players think that practice alone will bring about improvement. Yet, if the fundamentals are ignored, teams simply continue to practice bad habits. This belief in fundamentals made joining The Chute Staff a natural occurrance. Coach Cotter believes great shooters are made - not born....and The Chute can play a BIG part in this process.
Coach Harold Oliver
Coach Oliver is the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Riley County, Kansas. His teams have won 3 state titles in Kansas and show no signs of letting up. Coach Oliver knows that coaching is not just about the wins or the loses, but about helping young people develop into solid citizens. He constantly talks to his players and campers about the importance of commitment, dedication, and sacrifice. At camps, he attacks each day in a way that campers know immediately that their development is why he is in the gym. Coach Oliver has seen The Chute help his players (young and old) and is always amazed at how quickly players begin to improve at The Chute Camps.
Coach Matt Leary
Coach Leary has had a stellar basketball career as a player and as a coach. At Wartburg College, Coach Leary was voted the Iowa Conference Player of the Year his senior year. As the head girls basketball coach at Hinton H.S. in Iowa, his teams commonly advanced to State and finished 2nd at State in 2002. Coach Leary believes in a high intensity style of play that demands all players have the ability to put the ball in the basket. Coach Leary believes players need to understand to maximize their shooting potential they need to minimize their shooting flaws. That is why he has found The Chute Camps to be something he enjoys being a part of so much.
